Highlight: Sneaking into the Bellagio pool for a day.

True Story: Someone tried to smuggle a pizza home in their purse.

Where: O’Reilly Raceway Park – Indianapolis, IN
What: NHRA Drag Racing
Who: The Reese Family, featuring Elise
Highlight: Sating the need for vicarious speed.
Lowlight: The woman sitting in front of us who either didn’t know or didn’t care that her spandex shirt kept lifting while her underwear dropped down.
True Story: Apparently there’s an entity called “Racers for Christ.”

Where: Poland, Indiana
What: Wasatch Lake & Cataract Falls
Who: Roy, Belinda, Elise & Kelly LeBlanc, Gavin Frost + Jim May
When: August 28th-30th
Highlight: Mississippi Mud Pie for breakfast.
Lowlight: Not catching any fish because no one realized until the very last day that we should drop our lures another two feet.
True Story: There is a very good chance Wasatch holds the record for Most Taxidermied Animals Mounted On A Lodge Wall, Ever.

Where The Wild Thing Is – Metamora
Where: Metamora, IN
What: What Brown County would be if it hadn’t become a crazy tourist attraction.
When: August 20, 2009
Highlight: An antique store that was quite literally about to explode. Packed from floor to ceiling and several rows deep, it was pretty much impossible to see or reach anything in the back without having the whole wall collapse on top of you.
Lowlight: The comic book store wasn’t open, so Jim could only covet the $10 Incredible Hulk window sign from afar.
True Story: The town’s $4 ferry boat ride is a small barge pulled a couple hundred yards down then back up the creek by a horse walking on land.

Where: Indiana State Fair – Indianapolis, IN
When: August 20, 2009
Who: Jim May & Elise LeBlanc
Highlight: The amateur art pavilion. A gentleman (or possibly boy) named James Thompson had an airplane painting named “Flight of Fokkers” so fantastic I was inspired to pen an index card note, begging him to sell it to me post-exhibition. As of August 23, I have not yet heard back.
Lowlight: My tastebuds were shot due to Day 2 of a summertime cold.
True Story: One of the vendors was selling chocolate-covered bacon. I gagged a little just reading the sign.
